Blessings you can count on

We did a thankful jar in a Gospel Essentials Sunday school class that I taught and got some interesting responses. Investigators and new converts don't always give the types of answers you might expect!

Leaf therapy

There are people who don't like winter because it's too cold; there are people who don't like summer because it's too hot. But have you every heard anyone complain about autumn?

Call about you

If they told us why they were calling, a lot of folks would probably never show up.

Gold standard

Been having some technical difficulties today, so instead of a cute gag about early morning seminary, here's a colorized classic from a few years ago...

That's why they didn't send deacons

It's not a huge change, but for the foreseeable future, Zarahemla Times will be publishing on Saturdays rather than Fridays. I know this is a big disappointment for you who schedule your entire Friday around this cartoon, but be strong. It works out a lot better for me. Thanks!

Going by the book

Actually, I'm the youngest in my family, so I have no idea what she means.

Thanks to Sis. Kimmie (formerly serving in Ukraine but now in California) for the idea.

Have we got a plan for you!

Our stake's first pioneer trek was designed to give the kids a REAL pioneer experience, down to the menu: gruel, grub and mush. The kids hated it.

But it built character!

The road to recovery

One of the things I like about the Book of Mormon is when the authors describe the Lamanites. Usually it's something like "bloodthirsty, indolent, ferocious" or something along those lines. What I like about that is that it shows the prejudices that the writers had toward the Lamanites. I'm sure not all of them were bloodthirsty and indolent. They talk about how the Lamanites have been taught to hate the Nephites, but they seem to do a fine job of passing on their preconceptions as well.

In my lovely garden

There are often interesting things that turn up in our garden — pencils, cans, toys, bones — and I know I didm't put them there. Of course that's partly due to the fact that the garden faces the street. The worst was when I found my neighbor's car in there...but that's another story!

Men with skills

Pres. Kimball is often quoted as saying that he'd never been to a boring meeting. That may be true...but I haven't seen Pres. Kimball in many of my meetings!

Choosing seeds

That was always the hardest dilemma when I was sent to the store as a kid -- keep the change, or buy something for myself? Like Kib, I had a pretty healthy guilt gland.

Getting ready for General Conference

There are lots of ways you can prepare yourself to have an even more meaningful experience with General Conference. The Church website offers a few ideas.

And now, the rest of Kib's story

We finish up our series on bullying. Just remember two things: (1) "Do unto others as you would have done unto you" and (2) Karma has a long memory. Be good, be kind.

We interrupt our story line...

The Mormon Message featuring Pres. Uchtdorf speaking about bullying is making the rounds in social media. It seems to have resonated with a lot of people.  Likewise, one of the most popular story lines I've run in Zarahemla Times covers the same topic. In that vein, I'm rerunning some of those strips this week.
